This sweet, bright coffee grows in Ethiopia’s Gera district near the city of Djimma, situated just north of the Gojeb River.
Crops in this region are diverse. Spices, corn and teff – an ancient grain used to make traditional Ethiopian bread called injera – can all be found here. And as you travel higher up, you’ll also find coffee.
The rich, red soil called nitisol has a high clay content and is great for growing flavourful coffee. In Gera, the bean quality literally starts from the ground up.
