A very bright and unique single seed varietal from members of the lyego Farmers Cooperative Society in central Kenya.
The Iyego Farmers Cooperative Society (F.C.S.) is located on six acres of land in Murang’a County of Kenya's former Central Province.
Their members include over 1,000 smallholder farmers who grow SL 28, SL 34 and Ruiru 11 varietals on small plots in red, volcanic soil. The area is also known for its tea farming and indigenous trees that are well protected by the community.
Gitura Factory is where lyego members bring their coffees to be pulped, fully washed with river water and sun-dried on raised beds. This lot is exclusively comprised of peaberries: a variant of the coffee fruit that contains a single round seed instead of two. Separating the peaberries, which represent approximately 5% of all harvested beans, helps with roast consistency as they are more dense than typical seeds.
This particular lot produces a very bright cup shining with flavours of pomegranate, kiwi, raspberry and expresses the unique conditions of its origin.
