People & Place

Chalo Fernandez, Las Palmas

Chalo Fernandez is a fifth generation, quality-focused specialty coffee farmer. His family has been producing coffee for over 150 years, and his company – aptly named Chalo’s Coffee – is 100% family owned and operated. The Land

Huila, Colombia

Huila is a mountainous department in the southwest of Colombia that enjoy two harvests per year: the main harvest (April - June) and the smaller Mitaca fly crop (September - November). Coffees grow between 1,450 and 2,000 metres above sea level, including Castillo, Caturra, Pink Bourbon, Pacamara, and many other varieties. Huila is also a leader in the fight against climate change. Plan Huila 2050 is the first comprehensive climate change plan for a department in Colombia.
