WHAT GOT ROOSTER STARTED?

Rooster Coffeehouse started as a way to bring our neighbourhood together. It’s been proven time again that a shared space to gather will have a significant, positive impact on a community. We knew there was a great opportunity to offer that in our own community and hoped to develop stronger human connections with our neighbours in the process.

WHAT KEPT YOU GOING AND MADE YOU SO SUCCESSFUL?

Running a small business with so many moving parts can be difficult and stressful at times. The gas in our tank has always been our team and customers. We set out to create a soft place to land, where we can practice basic human kindness and make a small and positive difference in your day. Toronto is a big and fast moving city. At times we felt that coffee shops can be just the ‘carrier food,’ you know? Like popcorn is to butter! We have these spaces that serve great coffee, but it’s the butter to make people happy and let them know they’re appreciated. It’s a selfish gift really, but one that keeps giving. It feels good to be good, and we hope that our customers leave feeling great and loved and they shine that light onto others! We love how that works.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?

Our business has always been about love, community and basic human kindness. Our values are Love, Connection, Community, Fun, Beauty and Excellence. In order to focus all of our energies on the first five values we depend heavily on our suppliers for the last. People often say you can’t be all things. This is where our partnerships come in. We lean on Pilot Coffee as our roasting partner to represent our high standard of excellence and to provide excellent customer experience of their own every time. We know that every bag of coffee we serve is going to be nothing short of excellent, and that confidence allows us to focus on our core values. From farm to cup, Pilot simply cares with all their heart. 

HOW HAS PILOT SUPPORTED YOU?

A partnership with Pilot Coffee Roasters offers great coffee, but the customer care and client support is where they shine their brightest. Pilot will not only find and roast the best coffees in the world, they educate our team, maintain our machinery, and basically give us all the hand holding required to run a successful shop. We have been with Pilot for over 10 years and know they will always be there for us as mentors, teachers, helpers and incredible coffee providers. It’s a one-stop-shop that keeps us current and cared for, always.
